About Us

Why the Association was founded

To encourage Sikhs to uphold the saint-soldier spirit through participation, learning, and achievement in shooting sports.

Who we are and what we do

The Sikh Shooting Association (SSA) is a community-led organisation dedicated to promoting safe, disciplined, and culturally aware participation in shooting sports within the Sikh community across the United Kingdom.

Founded to support and inspire Sikhs who wish to develop skill, confidence, and understanding in shooting, the SSA provides guidance, education, and structured opportunities for training, development, and progression. Our work is rooted in the saint-soldier tradition, encouraging discipline, responsibility, and the continual pursuit of excellence.

The SSA offers support in key areas of the shooting journey, including safety education, responsible marksmanship, cultural and religious considerations, and pathways into licensing, clubs, and further training. We aim to make shooting accessible to newcomers while raising standards for those already active within the sport.

We work closely with ranges, clubs, instructors, and national bodies to ensure our members have access to safe environments, best practice, and reliable information. Our events, training days, and community programmes bring together shooters of all levels - from those taking their first steps to those seeking to refine advanced skills.

The SSA acts as a trusted point of contact for Sikhs seeking advice on equipment, clothing, religious accommodation, club participation, safeguarding, and wider issues affecting their involvement in the sport. We are committed to building a knowledgeable, disciplined, and well-supported community that contributes positively to the wider shooting landscape in the UK.

We believe that shooting is a challenging and rewarding discipline open to all, and we are dedicated to ensuring Sikhs can participate with confidence, cultural integrity, and the highest standards of safety and conduct.

Our Heritage

The Sikh tradition was born from strength, discipline, and service. The Khalsa were trained warriors - protectors of justice and the community. Skill with weapons was not aggression; it was a responsibility.

Today, that spirit continues. Marksmanship, training, and disciplined shooting reflect the same values: focus, restraint, and mastery of self. Reconnecting with these roots is about identity, confidence, and readiness.

Sikhs have always balanced spiritual depth with martial skill. At SSA, we carry that legacy forward through safe, modern, and legal shooting sports. Learning to shoot is learning to honour our past - with precision, safety, and respect.

SSA operates within all UK firearms legislation and Home Office club approval standards. We work closely with national governing bodies and local authorities to uphold safety, integrity, and community trust in the sport.
